Ipyana Wasret
Collector, Curator & Director
The Wasret Collection &
Brown Roberts Art Consulting

Ipyana Wasret was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, and purchased his first original painting 17 years ago. A Harvard graduate and Senior Administrator by education and profession, he is more importantly a collector, community activist and committed advocate of supporting Black visual arts and the systems that facilitate its creativity and innovations.

Ipyana attributes his fine art passion toward his youthful experiences as a student at the famous Elma Lewis School of the Fine Arts. At the age of eight, it was there where he took classes with the distinguished artist John Wilson, and learned of the enlightenment of Africans and their contributions to a cultural and historic aesthetic. With the founding of the Wasret Collection, Ipyana looks forward to continuing the legacy of Africans in the diasporas who inspired the likes of Augusta Savage, Charles Alston and Elma Lewis to found institutions such as Boston’s National Center for Afro-American Artists, Chicago’s South Side Community Art Center, Philadelphia’s historic Pyramid Group and New York’s renowned Spiral Group.
